Congratulations to the Northfield Squirt B hockey team for an outstanding performance the weekend of January 12-13, 2013 in Brainerd, MN placing second in the weekend tournament. The team started off with an early game Saturday morning where it was easily one of the best overall team performances of the season. Every goal scored in the opening round against the host team Brainerd was coupled with an assist. Then the stifling defense only allowed ten shots to get through where Emmett Forster was up to the task turning away every shot faced for the shut out. The Squirt B's squared off against Rogers in the second round Saturday night where two very evenly matched teams found the game still not decided at the end of regulation tied at 5. After a 5 minute sudden death overtime period the game remained tied. Now on to the shoot out. Isaac Mahle was up to the task in net. Tournament rules provided each team a best of five shoot out. After the five player shoot out the game remained even with each team scoring once. In order to finally decide a winner the tournament rules now required a sudden death shoot out. Finally, after a seven player shoot out with Isaac turning away the remaining shooters he faced Bodhe Haase found the puck to the back of the net to advance our Northfield Raiders to the championship round. The championship game against Chaska/Chanhassen proved to be a big mismatch as Chaska/Chanhassen beat every team they faced for the weekend by double digits and Jacob Rezac as the only player all weekend to get a puck past their goal tender. We are very proud of our Squirt B team bringing home the hardware from Brainerd.
