Program developed in partnership with the Northfield Skating School

Announcing our new Hockey Skating & Skills class for skaters ages six and up, a partnership between Northfield Hockey Association and Northfield Skating School. These classes will teach the fundamentals of hockey skating, as well as skills and drills for agility and proficiency in game situations.  It will be coached cooperatively by NSS and NHA coaches.

A major partnership between USA Hockey, US Figure Skating, and US Speed Skating occurred to create the Learn to Skate USA curriculum to improve skater development in all ice sports.  Carey Tinkelenberg, director of Northfield Skating School and Regional Development Specialist for Learn To Skate USA, has been working with NHA to create a program to help all our skaters improve their skating fundamentals.  For more information: http://ltsqc.usfigureskating.org/

Classes are suitable for skaters ages 6+, both brand new skaters and those who have already been playing and would like to improve their skating.  The Snowplow Sam skating class is available for skaters ages 4-5.

Classes run Tuesday evenings, July 19 - Aug 30th.  Register through Northfield Community Education by July 12.

Schedule is as follows:

5:00-5:45pm  Northfield Skating School - Hockey Skating & Skills - # 1312 – S16FHockey  (age 6+ / youth ages 4 & 5 should register for Snowplow Sam)

This 45-min class covers Learn to Skate USA's Hockey Skating Curriculum and the American Developmental Model's Learn to Play Hockey curriculum. Skaters will work with certified coaches from both Northfield Skating School and Northfield Hockey Association, rotating between hockey skating and hockey skill stations. The Hockey Skating curriculum, developed by USA Hockey and US Figure Skating, teaches the fundamentals of hockey skating. Skaters learn how to be more proficient and agile on the ice, without a stick or puck. Skaters will learn basic hockey stance, stride, knee bend, use of edges and other necessary fundamentals to be successful in hockey practice and game situations. The hockey skills station will develop basic stick handling skills and hockey strategy.  Basic hockey equipment is required: helmet, elbow and knee pads, and gloves. Equipment is available. After registration, a representative from the Northfield Hockey Association or the Northfield Skating School will contact you with further information and find out what equipment needs you have. Registration for this class includes a $15 coupon code for Northfield Hockey registration in the fall.
