Hockey Families,

This summer, we are excited to continue to offer a summer skills program through the NHA, similar in many respects to last year’s program.  The City is working with us to make sure Ice stays in over the summer, and it remains very important that we demonstrate a continuing demand for ice in Northfield -- SO PLEASE SIGN UP!!  

As with last year, we plan to run a 7 week program this summer, beginning on June 11 and ending on August 3 (taking the week of July 3 off).  Prices for each level, and specific days and times for each level, are provided below. 

This summer, we are offering a program without limiting the roster spots per level of play formally – but they will be limited practically, as we are trying to maintain a small coach to skater ratio at all levels.  

What that means is please don’t wait to sign up – we’re going to fill the slots on a first come, first served basis. Also, since we have to pre-pay for the Ice, we are opening up registration to skaters from other towns too, so don’t wait!! 

In order to secure the ice and be able to commit to the City for the ice time, we will need to have an enrollment established by April 6, 2018.  

Also, for all skaters not in the High School program next year, please sign up for the level of play that your athlete(s) will be at for the 2018-2019 season based on age alone, according to the following cut-offs:

Boys 

6U / Mini-Mite (Born on or after July 1, 2011)

8U / Mite (July 1, 2009 to June 30, 2011)

10U / Squirt (July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2009)

12U / Peewee (July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2007)

 

Girls

8 & Under (Born on or after July 1, 2009)

10 & Under Girls (July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2009)

12 & Under (July 1, 2005 to June 30, 2007)

 

To secure a slot, we need a $50 deposit by April 6, 2018.  We will then expect 50% on May 1, 2018, with full payment on June 1, 2018.

Each day will operate as a team practice, including power skating instruction, skill development, and team play strategies in both a controlled and scrimmage environment. Staffing will include two coaches at each session and we will maintain a 10:1 player to coach ratio. Players will need to register at their appropriate age level as per USA Hockey rules, and (on a case by case basis if warranted) will be placed at the appropriate skill level by age and ability to maximize their development. 

For the high school levels (including those moving into HS this year) off-Ice strength training sessions will be offered three times a week after practice at the Northfield

High School weight room.

STAFFING (NHA and Boys HS):

Derek Docken – Lead Instructor Tier 1-2; Lead Instructor NHA

2008 graduate of Northfield High School. Played 2 years of junior hockey in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and 1 in the United States Hockey League (USHL -Dubuque Fighting Saints). Earned a scholarship and played 4 years at the University of Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves. Signed with the Springfield Falcons of the American Hockey League (AHL). Currently playing in 2nd season for the Toledo Walleye of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). 

Charlie Cloud - Assistant Instructor NHA; 2011 graduate of Northfield High School. Served as the team captain during 2011 Senior season. Hired as the Assistant Coach Northfield Boys Hockey in 2016-17, working primarily with the forwards for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity teams. 

Jacob Halvorson – Assistant Instructor NHA

STAFFING (NHA Girls and Girls HS):

Brent Bielenberg, Nick Monson, Jeff LaPanta, and Paige Haley will be coaching the girls HS programs. Paige Haley will also be running the programming for the NHA girls too.
